BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - St. Vincent de Paul, One of many organizations that gives back to Baton Rouge had its turn in the spotlight today.
2015 marks 150 years since the group arrived in the capital city.
There was a mass at St. Joseph cathedral in Baton Rouge, followed by a special hall of fame induction ceremony.
St. Vincent de Paul is always in need of volunteers during the holidays and all year long. More information on them can be found HERE.
Catholic Charities is also getting a big boost.
The group just received a $50,000 grant to help mentor children with a parent in jail. Their goal is to help those kids stay on a successful path. Catholic charities in New Orleans already works to keeps families together by offering trips to prisons across the state.
"It keeps their mind occupied," said one supporter. "Doing something positive, as opposed to all the negative they could be getting into out there in this world today."
Supporters say, programs like this are an important tool in reducing crime and violence.
