NEW ORLEANS, LA (WAFB) - Louisiana Gatorade Player of the Year Lindsey Scott fueled a furious Zachary comeback after trailing John Ehret 12-6 in the second quarter, as the Broncos scored 40 unanswered points to claim the LHSAA Class 5A Football Championship 46-12 Saturday night.
The Broncos senior quarterback found Doug Coleman for a 17 yard touchdown pass with just 23 second left in the first half for a 13-12 Zachary lead, and the same combination produced an 81 yard scoring strike early in the third quarter for a 20-12 advantage.
Scott added two rushing touchdowns to make it 34-12 and earn the Most Outstanding Player award, and Terry Sullivan added the final two scores on runs of 25 and 32 yards.
The second-seeded Broncos won the school's first title in the Superdome, finishing with a 14-1 mark under second year head coach David Brewerton.
John Ehret a number nine seed finished 12-3.
Scott, who has won six WAFB Sportsline Player of the Week trophies in his career and is committed to play for Syracuse in college, accounted for 5 touchdowns.
