BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - A day after longtime Angola prison warden Burl Cain said he is retiring effective Jan. 1, 2016, the head of corrections announced leadership changes as a result.
James LeBlanc, secretary of the Louisiana Department of Public Safety and Corrections said Darrel Vannoy, the current warden of Dixon Correctional Institute, will serve as the interim warden at Angola. He has worked in corrections for 40 years.
LeBlanc also stated Jason Kent, the deputy warden of Dixon will move into Vannoy's position. He has been in that position a little more than two years and has been in corrections since 1991.
The changes will take effect Friday.
