ST. AMANT, LA (WAFB) -

Louisiana State Police are investigating a motorcycle crash that left an Alabama man dead Wednesday night.

State Troopers say the crash happened at 11 p.m. on LA 22 near the intersection of LA 937 in Ascension Parish.

According to State Police, an initial investigation revealed that 43-year-old John Carrizal of Decatur, Alabama was riding his 2008 Harley Davidson westbound on LA 22 when he ran off of the side of the road and hit a mailbox. Carrizal lost control of the motorcycle and was ejected.

Carrizal was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash and suffered fatal injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Ascension Parish Coroner's Office.

State Police believe that impairment may be a factor in the crash. A routine toxicology test was taken and submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.
