DONALDSONVILLE, LA (WAFB) - Officials have released the name of a contract worker who died after a mysterious incident at a south Louisiana chemical plant, but still don't know what caused his death.
Sulzer Chemtech identified the employee as Teodoro Silva Jr. of Mercedes, Texas. Officials said he had been with the company for almost two years.
Sulzer officials added they are investigating the matter, as is OSHA, "and are working quite vigorously to determine the cause of events which led to this most unfortunate accident."
The incident happened at CF Industries in Donaldsonville on Friday in a part of the plant that is currently under construction for an expansion and is not yet operational. A CF Industries spokesman said the contract worker was found unconscious around 1 p.m. He added the worker was rushed to the hospital where he later died.
Sulzer said Silva left behind a wife and three children. Officials added "he was well liked and admired by his co-workers."
Sulzer Chemtech is an international company with a US branch in Houston.
