President Barack Obama's transportation secretary will push for the full funding of light rail in Baton Rouge connecting downtown with LSU.

Secretary Anthony Fox has met with Mayor Kip Holden and area leaders about the 3.2 mile Nicholson Drive project.

The first thing that has to happen is for a committee led by city-parish leaders to put together a proposal with compelling enough reasons for the project.

Next, the proposal would be submitted to Fox, who would then recommend that it go into the president's budget.
