GONZALES, LA (WAFB) - Investigators have made two arrests in a big arson case in Gonzales that left one person dead and another seriously hurt.
Louisiana State Fire Marshal Butch Browning said David McLaughlin, 44, of Gonzales, and Frankie Morrison, 66, of Marrero, were responsible for setting fire to a house on Tom Miles Road in August and then taking off.
Browning added McLaughlin owned the home. Investigators believe he and at least two other men did it to collect insurance money.
They also believe the men murdered someone in New Orleans shortly after.
Both men are charged with second-degree murder, aggravated arson, injury by arson and arson with intent to defraud. Bond is set at $650,000 for each man. They remain in the Ascension Parish Jail.
Browning said he expects at least one more arrest in this case. He also stated more details will be released at a news conference on Friday.
