WEST FELICIANA, LA (WAFB) - Firefighters in West Feliciana fought a grass fire for just under four hours Tuesday afternoon.
A homeowner said they were cleaning up a yard and burning grass clippings in the 10500 block of Bains Road when the fire spread to a nearby field. The fire covered about 26 acres of grass and pine saplings, and burned five nearby property owners' land.
Firefighters were called to the scene after noon and stayed on scene, fighting the fire for four hours. A release says muddy conditions caused several trucks to become stuck during the incident. The Louisiana Department of Forestry were called to bring a brush truck and bulldozer to the scene, which helped to pull out the stuck firefighting equipment.
A local resident was treated by EMS for possible heat exhaustion after trying to fight the flames for several hours.
The West Feliciana Fire Department cautions those who burn outdoors to ensure conditions are right before burning any material, and take precautions to stop the spread of fires.
