IBERVILLE PARISH, LA (WAFB) - Deputies with the Iberville Parish Sheriff's Office and offices with the Plaquemine Police Department rounded up dozens of suspected drug dealers early Wednesday morning after an undercover operation.
Iberville Parish Sheriff Brett Stassi led the investigation which is an effort to eliminate the sale of drugs, especially prescription medications, in Iberville.
The task force included deputies from West Baton Rouge Parish.
Their goal was to get 43 people off the streets for 57 different charges. So far, they were successful in getting 21 people by knocking on doors, waking people up and arresting them.
An Iberville Parish Grand Jury looked at all the cases and found enough evidence to indict the people who were wanted in the round-up.
Iberville Parish Sheriff Brett Stassi said they will continue to search for those who were not arrested on Wednesday and will release their names and pictures out so others can turn them in.
"These arrests are from White Castle to Maringouin and Plaquemine to St. Gabriel," said Sheriff Stassi. "No area of the parish was ignored. We will continue to go after drug dealers here, using a variety of investigative tools. This is an on-going area of emphasis to get the drugs out of Iberville."
Names and charges of those arrested will be release as soon as officials can compile the information.
