Officials investigate deadly apartment fire on North Donmoor

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

One person is dead after a late Monday night apartment fire. The fire happened on North Donmoor just after 11 p.m.

Baton Rouge Fire Fighters say when they arrived, the second floor of the building was engulfed in flames. 

Fire fighters immediately found one victim who was critically injured, but managed to escape the blaze. EMS treated the victim and was taken to the hospital. A second victim was found and firefighters pulled that person from the blaze, unfortunately the person died at the scene.

All other residents of the apartment building managed to escape unharmed.

Firefighters were able to control the fire and keep it from spreading to other buildings. The fire was contained to the second story of the apartment building. The first floor received heavy water damage.

Investigators say the cause of the fire is undetermined and is under investigation.

Red Cross was called and is assisting other residents.

The name of the person who died in the fire has not been released pending notification of next of kin.
