BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - A judge has issued no bond for the murder charges against a man accused of kidnapping and killing a Baton Rouge couple in October.

The suspect, 42-year-old Ernesto Alonzo, was given a $30,000 bond for kidnapping charges in the case but was not given bond for the murder charges.

Alonzo has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder and two counts of second-degree kidnapping in the deaths of 71-year-old Denis Duplantier and his wife, 70-year-old Suzanne Duplantier.

The Duplantiers were found bound and beaten to death in their truck at a truck stop in Hammond after being reported missing on October 19. Investigators say their home had been broken into the night before and a large amount of money was missing out of the safe.

Investigators say that Alonzo was a handy man for the Duplantiers and was living on their property at the time.

Alonzo was arrested soon after in Florida and extradited back to Baton Rouge on December 4.

A second suspect in the case, 48-year-old Frank Garcia, was arrested in Florida on November 18.

Garcia also faces two counts of first-degree murder and is awaiting an extradition hearing.
