BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Governor-elect John Bel Edwards has announced his transition committee for healthcare.
The Healthcare Committee will be tasked with developing a plan to accept $16 billion in federal funds to expand Medicaid in Louisiana.
The committee will also work to reexamine the public-private partnerships of Louisiana's hospitals and continuous improvement of Bayou Health.
"Expanding access to healthcare for Louisiana's working families is one of my top priorities," says Edwards. "These are our tax dollars going to other states when we could be using them right here at home. Our budget challenges center on a deeply flawed healthcare system, and I've asked this committee to develop a strategy to address this that we can begin implementing on day one."
The committee will be co-chaired by Ronnie Goux, President of the Louisiana Nursing Home Association, and Dr. Gary Wiltz, CEO of Teche Action Clinic.
Edwards will be inaugurated on January 11.
