Construction worker dies in incident at CF Industries

DONALDSONVILLE, LA (WAFB) -

A mystery at a local plant where a worker was found unconscious early Friday afternoon. 

A spokesman for the CF Industries plant in Donaldsonville said the contract worker was found around 1 p.m. Friday and was rushed to a hospital where he later died. 

The contract worker was with Sulzer Chemtech, an international company with a US branch based in Houston. The worker's name has not yet been released.

Sulzer Chemtech released a statement:

"Sulzer Chemtech is deeply saddened by the news of the loss of one of our employees on the afternoon of December 4, 2015. We offer our deepest sympathies to the family members of our lost colleague and friend. We are committed to offering our full support and assistance to family members to assist them in their time of need. Sulzer Chemtech is presently investigating the facts surrounding this event. In the interim, we ask that the family members privacy be respected during this most difficult time."

The incident happened in a part of the plant that is currently under construction for an expansion and is not yet operational.

The company in investigating the incident. Both Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office and Louisiana State Police were alerted about the incident.
