Lafayette Police Chief Jim Craft announced Friday morning he would be retiring after 39 years of service on January 31, 2016.

Chief Craft notified the current LCG Administration in April of 2015 that January 31, 2016 would be his projected retirement date. After much reflection with his family he felt as though it is the right time in his life to retire.

For the last 39 years, Chief Craft has served the citizens of this community in a variety of positions, including his final 10 years as Chief of Police.

"Although there were many ups and downs, I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at the Lafayette Police Department. Of course, the most challenging but most rewarding of the positions I have held is leading this agency and working with so many courageous men and women," Chief Craft said.

Chief Craft looks forward to spending more time with current and future grandchildren, hunting, golf and his wife, Joan Dupré Craft.
