PLAQUEMINE, LA (WAFB) - A suspect accused of shooting his neighbor and shot in an officer-involved shooting has been arrested.
Louisiana State Police arrested 53-year-old Quinton Lawrence of Plaquemine and charged with 2 counts of attempted second-degree murder, 3 counts of aggravated assault on a peace officer with a firearm, and one count of a felon in possession of a firearm in connection to a shooting on December 1.
Plaquemine Police say officers responded to a shooting where a victim was shot on West W. Harleaux Street. Lawrence and the victim are reportedly neighbors who have been having issues recently. Investigators say Lawrence started firing on his neighbor, injuring him.
Two officers responded to the shooting and found the injured victim, who told them about the suspect. According to police, the officers followed the suspect across the street.
Police Chief Kenny Payne said the suspect pointed a gun at the officers when they confronted him. Police say one of the officers fired at least one shot and hit the suspect.
Both the victim and the suspect sustained non-life threatening injuries. Lawrence was released from OLOL on Thursday and booked into the Iberville Parish Jail.
The officer was placed on administrative leave until the investigation is over, which is standard protocol. The investigation was turned over to LSP.
