BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Deputies with the East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Department helped some local kids mark some items off of their Christmas list Thursday morning.
EBRSO partnered with Target on Siegen Lane for Shop with a Cop.
The 20 children were nominated by their school counselors based on need.
Deputies and Target employees took the children through the aisles around 9 a.m. and let them pick out whatever toys they wanted.
"Now more than ever, it's important that law enforcement really build these relationships with young people," says EBRSO spokesman Casey Rayborn Hicks. "We want young people to run to us when there's trouble, not away from us so this is just a great opportunity for these deputies to come here with these children, for them them to celebrate Christmas and have fun."
