BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - A man wanted on an attempted murder and other charges after being accused of attacking his ex-girlfriend has been arrested.

The Baton Rouge Police Department said Joseph Carroll II, 30, broke into his ex-girlfriend's apartment in late October and attacked her. Investigators said he also pulled out a gun, pointed it at her and pulled the trigger, but the gun didn't fire.

He has been charged with attempted second-degree murder, home invasion, aggravated battery, domestic abuse battery with child endangerment, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and criminal damage to property.

Upon checking the criminal history of Carroll, investigators learned he has been arrested four times and was convicted of aggravated robbery in Texas. He also has two warrants for his arrest for unauthorized entry of an inhabited dwelling and simple battery.

Carroll is being held in the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on a $218,000 bond.
