Chad Germany resigns from SU football coaching staff, 3 defensive assistants fired

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Southern co-offensive coordinator and recruiting coordinator Chad Germany told WAFB he has resigned from the Jaguars' athletic program.

He sent a written statement Wednesday night announcing the decision:

I'm grateful for the opportunity that I was given to work at Southern University.  It is a very special place with some great people.  I thank Coach Stump Mitchell for bringing me to SU and Coach Odums for the opportunity to advance my career.  You cannot replace the experience.  I wish Coach Odums and the Jaguar Nation nothing but the best going forward.

Germany was also the quarterback coach at Southern. Before joining the program, he was the head football coach at his alma mater Capitol High School in Baton Rouge.

"Chad Germany has been instrumental in the success of the Southern University football program for four years," said head coach Dawson Odums. "His development of the quarterbacks at Southern helped produced the program's all-time leading passer and perennial All-SWAC performers. We thank Chad for his service at Southern in helping rebuild the football program and wish him the best in his future endeavors."

Southern said Germany will stay on staff until January 14.

The Jaguars landed seven offensive players on the All-SWAC first and second teams which were announced Wednesday. Southern (6-5, 6-3) had 11 players total on the All-SWAC team.

Defensive line coach Myron Jackson, linebackers coach Lorick Atkinson and cornerbacks coach Chris Scott were fired from the Southern coaching staff.
