AMITE, LA (WAFB) -

The Amite Warriors are appealing their chance to make it to the Superdome in the Class 3A football playoffs.

The school was kicked out of the Class 3A football semifinals after a bench-clearing fight that ended last Friday night's game against Bogalusa in the quarterfinals. The fight happened in the last two minutes of the game as the Warriors were leading Bogalusa, 56-20.

According to LHSAA's rules about sportsmanship, players are automatically suspended for the next game if they leave the team's bench space during a fight.

No. 11-seed Amite plans to appeal the decision by LHSAA Executive Director Eddie Bonine on Wednesday morning. The appeal will be closed to the public and media.

The Warriors were set to face the No. 15-seed St. James Wildcats at home on Friday. If their appeal doesn't go through, the Wildcats will advance to the Class 3A Championship game on December 11 against the winner of the West Feliciana-Lutcher semifinal game.

Amite was the runner-up in Class 3A last year.
