BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - The fifth College Football Playoff rankings of the season were released by the College Football Playoff Committee on Tuesday.
LSU returned to the rankings at No. 21 after having not made the list the week before. In the third week, the Tigers fell to No. 15 after being ranked No. 9 in the second week. The Tigers beat Texas A&M on Saturday, 19-7, to finish the regular season.
LSU was originally ranked at the No. 2 spot in the first rankings before losing to Alabama, 30-16, on November 7.
The Clemson Tigers still remain at No. 1 along with Alabama at No. 2. The Crimson Tide jumped from No. 4 to No. 2 the week after their win over LSU and have stayed there since.
The Oklahoma Sooners and the Iowa Hawkeyes round out the top four at No. 3 and No. 4 respectively.
There are only three other SEC teams in the rankings with the Florida Gators falling from No. 12 to No. 18, Ole Miss jumping to No. 13 from No. 18 the week before, and Tennessee just making the list at No. 25.
The rankings have been released every Tuesday since November 3. The final rankings will come out next week on December 6.
The top four teams will play in the Orange and Cotton bowls. The bowl games will be on New Year's Eve and serve as semi-final games with the winners of each game advancing to the National Championship game. That game will be played in Glendale, AZ on January 11.
