BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - It's the time of year for all of those great holiday movies, and last week, it seemed like we were all watching a new version of "It's a Wonderful Life."
LSU Football Coach Les Miles was starring as George Bailey and Athletic Director Joe Alleva was playing the role of Henry F. Potter. If you're not familiar with the movie, George Bailey is an all-around good guy and Potter is a mean man. But real life is not like the movies; it's messy.
We're sure the administration at LSU is reviewing their treatment of Coach Miles, and we all understand the difficulty of trying to address a personnel issue that attracts so much attention from the general public. The news media had a role in what happened last week as well. We're also evaluating our coverage.
We'll offer one thought about all the attention this story received last week. Many people believe that Miles' job was saved, at least in part, by the groundswell of public support expressed for him. That would not have happened if people didn't know what the university was considering.
