Tuesday morning crash claims life of Independence woman

INDEPENDENCE, LA (WAFB) - Louisiana State Police say that a woman died after a Tuesday morning crash in Albany.

Officials say the crash occurred on LA 442, west of LA 43 in Livingston Parish. The crash took the life of 49-year-old Peggy Perry of Independence, LA

Police investigators believe Perry was traveling westbound on LA 442 in a 2003 Chevrolet when, for unknown reasons, her vehicle crossed the center line and ran off the left side of the highway. The vehicle began to overturn, coming to a rest off of the roadway on the eastbound side.

Perry was restrained but sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

A passenger in the car, 56-year-old Steven Barnett, was also properly restrained and sustained moderate injuries from the crash. He was transferred to an area hospital for treatment.

Impairment is not suspected to be a factor in this crash, but toxicology samples were taken and will be sent off for tests.
