LSU to Host Holiday Spectacular, Light Christmas Tree Dec. 1

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - LSU will host Holiday Spectacular, a festive night of free holiday activities on Tuesday, Dec. 1. Once known as the LSU Candlelight Celebration, the event is now a collaborative initiative to promote all there is to do and see at LSU during the holiday season.

The night will include:

LSU Press's Season's Readings Book Sale - From 4:30-6:30 p.m. at The Club at Union Square, Highland Road at Raphael Semmes Road. Open to the public.

Holiday Performances - Beginning at 5 p.m. at the LSU Student Union Theater. The event will feature performances from LSU students, faculty and community organizations. Open to the public.

LSU Christmas Tree Lighting - Begins at 6 p.m. at the Free Speech Circle. Open to the public.

The LSU Christmas tree, a 30-foot magnolia little gem, is indigenous to Louisiana and is the state flower; it was planted in 2014. The living LSU Christmas Tree symbolizes LSU's commitment to celebrating the holidays in a sustainable, environmentally friendly way.

SU Staff Senate's Holiday on Campus - From 6-8 p.m. at the LSU Student Union North Lobby. This is a holiday carnival for LSU students and children of LSU students, faculty and staff.

Pre-Kwanzaa Celebration - Begins at 6 p.m. at the LSU African American Cultural Center. The event will celebrate the origin and traditions of Kwanzaa.

Benjamin Britten's "Ceremony of Carols" Concert Featuring LSU Women's Chorale with the St. James Treble Choir - Begins at 7:30 p.m. in the St. Alban's Chapel, Highland Road at Dalrymple Drive. This event is open to the public.

LSU President's Late Night Breakfast - From 10 p.m. - 12 a.m. at the 5 and 459 Commons dining halls. This is a pre-finals tradition ensuring LSU students are properly fueled for final exams. Students should show Tiger Card LSU ID.
