GONZALES, LA (WAFB) - After a tight race for parish president, the votes are final in Ascension Parish.
Councilman Kenny Matassa is the new Ascension Parish president. The parish clerk said after an official tally of votes Tuesday morning from Saturday's elections, there is no change in the president's race.
The numbers released Saturday night showed Matassa unofficially defeated Clint Cointment by 115 votes. Clerk Bridget Hanna said two additional military votes for Matassa were counted Tuesday after the machines were opened and the official count was taken, bringing his winning margin to 117.
Matassa stated on Monday he is ready to lead the parish.
