LSU’s Ben Simmons has been named the SEC Freshman of the Week.
Simmons averaged 22.5 points, 12.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists and three steals in wins over Kennesaw State and South Alabama.
In the Tigers victory over South Alabama, Simmons scored 23 points and grabbed 16 rebounds, becoming the first SEC freshman to have a 20 point-15 rebound game since Julius Randle of Kentucky during the 2013-14 season.
Georgia’s Kenny Gaines and Kentucky’s Tyler Ulis shared the SEC Player of the Week honors.
Gaines scored a career-high 35 points to lead the Bulldogs to a 63-52 win over Murray State.
Ulis averaged team highs in points (19.5), assists (5.5), steals (2.0) and free-throw percentage (.889) to lead UK to a 4-0 start to the season.
