BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - A suspected drug user was arrested Sunday after people contacted police claiming she had a baby that wasn't properly dressed for the cold weather.
According to the probable cause report, Christine Hussey, 31, was at a convenience store on O'Neal Lane around 4 p.m. She "appeared to be on drugs with an infant that did not have clothes on," the report stated.
Authorities said the officer who responded to the complaint found Hussey at a store next to the gas station. They added Hussey had a child with her "who did not have proper clothes on for how cold the weather was."
The incident happened around 4 p.m. The official temperature for Baton Rouge at that time was 54 degrees.
The report stated witnesses said Hussey dropped the infant while running back and forth between the gas station and store. It added EMS checked out the baby and reported seeing "a bruise under its right eye, a scratch on its face and scratches located between the infant's legs."
According to the report, the investigator saw a hypodermic needle sitting on the front seat of the car and a more thorough search turned up marijuana, three Xanax "bars" and a small bag of crystal meth.
Hussey was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on charges of cruelty to a juvenile, possession of marijuana, possession of meth and possession of Xanax. Bond has not been set.
