BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - The Baton Rouge Police Department has arrested a man accused of shooting and killing a dog Wednesday night.

Police have arrested 19-year-old Malik Pitcher and charged him with illegal use of a weapon, cruelty to animals and resisting arrest.

According to police, the owner of a home in the 5700 block of St. Katherine Avenue told police she heard the sound of a gunshot come from outside of her home. When she looked outside, she spotted Pitcher standing over her dog who had been shot once in the head. He then fled on a bicycle.

Police then went to Pitcher's home in the 5700 block of South Sunset Hill Avenue to speak to him about the incident.

Pitcher was arrested by police after attempting to flee through a window at the rear of the home.

With consent from Pitcher's mother, police searched the residence and found ammunition, a handgun holster and two red t-shirts in Pitcher's bedroom.

They also observed the bicycle and spotted that the tires were wet and there were fresh tire marks in the grass.
