SLAUGHTER, LA (WAFB) - Louisiana fire officials are investigating what caused a fire that destroyed a house in which a body was found late Wednesday night.
The Office of Louisiana State Fire Marshal reported the fire happened on Sanford Lane in Slaughter just before 10 p.m.
Investigators said the East Feliciana Parish Coroner's Office is conducting an autopsy to confirm the identity of the victim and determine the exact cause of death.
The fire marshal's office said the Bluff Creek Fire Protection District responded to the fire. Officials said the firefighters found the body of a man on the floor near a door in the living room.
They added there was no electricity or running water in the house.
According to investigators, the evidence shows the fire started in the living room, which was at the front part of the house.
The investigation is ongoing.
