Searchers find body of missing fisherman

HOUMA, LA (WAFB) - Authorities reported the body of a fisherman was found a day after he was reported missing.

The Terrebonne Parish Sheriff's Office identified the fisherman as Gary Crochet, 69, of Houma.

Sheriff Jerry Larpenter said deputies were called out to Lake De Cade near Houma on Tuesday around 10:15 a.m.

He said the caller told deputies he had seen a man fishing in a boat earlier, but then later saw the boat on the water and the man was not in it.

Investigators said the caller added the winds were high at the time that he saw the empty boat.

According to Larpenter, Crochet's body was found Wednesday afternoon.

He said the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff's Office water patrol, Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries, US Coast Guard, Assumption Parish Sheriff's Office water patrol and a commercial fisherman help in the search.
