LAFOURCHE PARISH, LA (WAFB) - The America's WETLAND Foundation (AWF) is working to bring new life to one waterway as part of the state's battle against its vanishing coastline.
Four miles of the embankment on both sides of the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway (GIWW) is being rebuilt in Lafourche Parish near Larose.
"This canal has become a virtual line of demarcation for erosion and wetland loss. It is the elephant in the room," said Val Marmillion, managing director of America's WETLAND Foundation.
Private funding is playing a huge role in speeding up the long overdue stabilization of the canal.
