BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Another Pop! Smart Show is ahead at The Varsity Theater on Highland Road Wednesday, December 2.
"What is that?" you ask.
Flying drones, live 3D printing by Acadian Robotics, aerialists, more robots, 3D projections, jazz bands, dancers, art and more. The variety of art is diverse, stylish, avant garde... it invites many adjectives!
Pop! Smart is the brain-child of Neda Parandian, an international artist raised locally.
"My inspiration came from the love of art and creativeness as well as the love for my people. I hate to see my people struggle to be able to display and sell their work, as well as artists to perform. So we want to provide them a step to a window to success."
Pop! Smart was born as an event that moved the art out of galleries and into a grand event-like atmosphere. Parandian throws in a little performance art with it, as well as technological advances that weren't being displayed to the public. Now looking at her third event, Parandian says Pop! Smart has been growing with each gathering.
The December event platter is stacked with a feast. Everything from jazz bands, D.J.s, digital artists, an aerial silk artist, amazing 3-D printing art, dancers, and more than a dozen individual artists. Pop! incorporates works from artists who are different ages, experience, and cultural background.
For instance, one newcomer to Pop! Smart is Scott Finch, who works at Louisiana Art and Science Museum. He will be displaying his work which consists of drawings, illustrations, and graphic novels.
Also appearing for the first time at Pop! is "The Sun Room," which consists of six musicians ranging from 13 to 16 years old, The group will be performing at the Varsity Theater, alongside The Easy, DJ Jack Bacques, and Murray Thomas.
You see the mix of many things fun?
Parandian found she was good at lining up the elements of the art show and that sales of the artists works were phenomenal.
As for her own art, Parandian says it has to take a back seat to the big picture, fostering an even healthier market for artists in the Red Stick. Neda says she feels her events brings a level of comfort and awe for those new art fanatics and the community. It's a theme that inspired the birth of a non-profit.
Pop! Smart is at The Varsity Theater on Highland Road, Wednesday December 2, from 8 p.m. to 12 a.m.
General Admission is $15. Snacks and a free drink are available.
