1 dead after truck found submerged in canal in Plaquemine

PLAQUEMINE, LA (WAFB) -

The Iberville Parish Sheriff's Department is investigating a truck found submerged in a canal Sunday morning. 

Deputies received a call around 9 a.m. about a vehicle submerged in a canal in the St. Louis Subdivision in Plaquemine. 

According to Iberville Parish Sheriff Brett Stassi, a woman was out walking her dog when she spotted the truck. When officials arrived they pulled the truck out of the canal and discovered two people inside of the vehicle. 

One of the occupants was pronounced dead at the scene. A second occupant was taken to a nearby hospital where their condition is currently unknown. 

Investigators are trying to determine exactly when the crash happened but believe that it may have happened sometime overnight. 

The names of the victims have not yet been released. 

The crash remains under investigation.
