Suspect in undercover narcotics investigation arrested following police chase, crash

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

A suspect is in custody following a chase that started in West Baton Rouge Parish, according to Sheriff Mike Cazes.

It began as an undercover narcotics investigation. According to Sheriff Cazes, the suspect was driving a rented BMW with a Florida license plate. After leaving a home in West Baton Rouge Parish, narcotics agents witnesses him violate several traffic laws. The agents attempted to pull him over on multiple, but he kept driving.

When the suspect, later identified as Brent Johnson from Brusly, began to drive over the Mississippi River Bridge, officers with the Baton Rouge Police Department were called to assist. 

The suspect was driving down the Florida Blvd. exit ramp when he crashed into another vehicle. The WBRSO deputy pursuing the suspect then crashed into the back of the suspect's vehicle.

There were no major injuries reported in the collisions.

Investigators recovered a package that contained 8 pounds of marijuana. It has an estimated street value of $50,000. 

Johnson will be processed into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison and will then be transported to West Baton Rouge.
