ST. MARY PARISH, LA (WAFB) - Louisiana State Police are investigating the death of a man who was hit and killed while attempting to run across US 90.
Troopers say the accident happened just after 7:15 p.m. Wednesday.
According to State Troopers, the victim, 39-year-old Samuel Mitchell of Franklin, was walking along the south shoulder of US 90 eastbound when a family member pulled up in their vehicle and attempted to talk Mitchell into getting into the vehicle.
Mitchell then ran away from the family member and attempted to cross the westbound lanes of US 90 when he was struck by a 2007 Dodge Pick-up truck.
Mitchell was pronounced dead at the scene by the St. Mary Parish Coroner's Office.
The driver of the truck, 83-year-old Wallace Mason of Belle Chase, was not injured in the crash.
