BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - The East Baton Rouge Metro Council approved to make changes to routes with the Capitol Area Transit System (CATS).
Two CATS routes will be eliminated: the O'Neal Park and Ride and the Downtown to Mall of Louisiana Express routes. There will no longer be any express service to those areas, but riders can still reach them with through regular service.
"These route eliminations are the next step in improving how we serve our riders and we thank the Metro Council for approving our request," said CATS CEO Bob Mirabito. "We will be working to educate our current riders on the changes before they go into effect on December 6."
With the elimination of the two routes, CATS will work to improve five other routes by either adding extra bus hours or buses. The routes include Route 12 – Government Street/Jefferson Hwy, Route 17 – Perkins Road/Mall of Louisiana, Route 47 – Highland Rd., and Route 54 – Airline Highway North/Southern University.
CATS will also expand the hours of the Downtown Airport Express from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.
According to CATS, Some other routes will be improve through different ways including re-routing
- Route 16 – Capitol Park Shuttle: Improve bus frequency by 10 minutes to every 30 minutes
- Route 18 – LSU/Cortana Mall: Minor schedule changes
- Route 44 – Florida Boulevard: Route change to shorten trip times
- Route 72 – Florida Boulevard Limited: Route change to shorten trip times
