BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - A big announcement was made Tuesday for low-income families who are enrolled in Cox Communications' Connect2Compete program.
In addition to doubling speed of the program's internet service, Cox is now offering in-home Wi-Fi as part of the monthly package.
By offering discounted internet service to families that qualify, the Connect2Compete program will ultimately help decrease the digital divide.
"This is a game changer, an opportunity. First let me say it's my goal that every student in East Baton Rouge Parish have an opportunity to be on a level playing field, to be able to access internet in their home," said Superintended Warren Drake of the East Baton Rouge Public School System. "Today, we're in a digital world, in a world where teachers give assignments that are digital. You have to go on the internet. Right now, many of our students must go to the library, to a friend's house to do that."
