THIBODAUX, LA (WAFB) -

A Labadieville man has been arrested on charges of felony theft and unauthorized entry of an inhabited dwelling after a make-shift surveillance system caught him breaking into a home, according to officials with the Thibodaux Police Department.

Emmett Thomas, 51, is being held in the Lafourche Parish Detention Center on a $60,000 bond.

On Friday, November 6th, at approximately 3:52 p.m., the victim returned home to find that his home had been broken into. Police say nothing was missing from inside the home. The victim told Police that his home had been broken into in the past so he set up a make-shift surveillance system.

The make-shift surveillance system showed the suspect, who Police were able to identify as 51-year-old Emmett Thomas, leaving the rear of the victim’s home with coke products that had been taken from an outside refrigerator on the property.

At approximately 10:12 p.m. the same day, the investigating Officers spotted Emmett Thomas riding a bicycle on Canal Boulevard near Pecan Street.

During the investigation, officials learned Thomas had been arrested on three separate occasions since 1996 on theft charges. Because this is his fourth arrest for theft, he is charged with felony theft for taking the coke products.

His bond for unauthorized entry was set at $50,000. The bond for felony theft was set at $10,000.
