GONZALES, LA (WAFB) - A pilot is lucky to be alive after crashing in a field Friday afternoon.
The Gonzales Police Department reported it happened near St. Elizabeth Hospital between Plaza One and the Clarion Inn, which is near LA 30 off I-10, around noon.
"It was found that the pilot was a training pilot who had just left from the Gonzales airport," Charlotte Guedry, spokeswoman for the Gonzales Police Department, said. "According to witness statements, the plane appeared to be in distress and the pilot attempted to land the plane."
Guedry added the pilot was taken to the hospital with minor to moderate injuries.
The pilot's name was not released.
The Gonzales Police Department and Gonzales Fire Department responded to the crash.
The incident is still being investigated.
