BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

Police are investigating a crash that sent a bicyclist to the hospital Thursday morning.

The Baton Rouge Police Department said a man was riding what was described as a "kid’s bike" on the sidewalk along Old Hammond Highway toward Airline Highway.

Officers said a driver was pulling out of the Walmart parking lot, didn’t see the man on the bicycle and hit him.

A Walmart employee happened to walk outside a short time later, saw all of the police activity and realized the victim was his cousin.

"When I walked up and I recognized his face," Jafari Kelly said. "I just shook my head and got his phone. Called his wife, let her know what was going on."

Police said the man on the bicycle was taken to the hospital. His injuries are not considered life-threatening, but investigators did not explain how severe the injuries were.

Officers added the driver was not cited.
