OUR TURN - Sid Ortis' Death

. - Air: Tuesday, 11/03/2015

We pause to remember the life of Sid Ortis this week.

Sid was a 16-year-old teenager from Mountain Brook, Alabama. He fought a valiant battle against cancer, but over the weekend he died. We know about Sid because he was a fish out of water. He was a die-hard LSU football fan, and purple and gold are not the most common team colors that you ordinarily see in Sid's Alabama neighborhood. We mainly know about him because he was befriended by LSU Coach Les Miles.

Miles invited Sid to attend the LSU game against Auburn in September, and the teenager savored every moment, describing it as his "happiest day ever." The coach's gift to Sid and his family was truly a beautiful thing, and after the teen's death, Miles reflected on how fortunate we are if we have healthy family members. Many of us in the LSU nation will lose all sense of perspective this week, anticipating, cheering, and perhaps even winning one for Sid. At the end of the day, we'd be wise to remember what Coach Miles said about what's really important.

That's "Our Turn." Now, it's your turn. To comment on this segment or anything else, visit us on Facebook or send an email to yourturn@wafb.com.
