BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - The Voice of the Tigers will miss No. 4 LSU's showdown Saturday in Tuscaloosa against No. 7 Alabama.
This will be the first LSU football game Jim Hawthorne has missed in his career as the Voice of the Tigers.
Hawthorne is still recovering from a medical procedure he underwent late last week. He is expected to return in a couple of weeks.
In Hawthorne's absence. Patrick Wright, a longtime member of the LSU Sports Radio Network, will handle play-by-play duties Saturday during the game and Gordy Rush, the sideline reporter for the LSU football broadcast, will fill in Wednesday night at the Les Miles Radio Show.
"I appreciate all of the wonderful thoughts, prayers and well-wishes from LSU fans," Hawthorne said. "The show of support has been overwhelming. It's truly humbling to have so many people call, email, and send text messages asking how I'm doing. I can't respond to all of them, but they are very much appreciated."
Hawthorne announced his retirement from LSU last spring. He is set to retire following the upcoming basketball season.
