Police: 'Holy Spirit alerts complainant to missing vehicle'

THIBODAUX, LA (WAFB) - An 18 year old man was arrested twice within 24 hours for taking a vehicle that didn't belong to him.

Officials with the Thibodaux Police Department say 18-year-old Rashon Maize has been charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.

On Sunday, November 1st, at approximately 1:40 a.m., Thibodaux Police Officers found a red 2015 Chrysler 200 in the ditch in the 200 Block of Sanders Street. Rashon Maize, who was still in the driver's seat, jumped to the back seat when he saw the officers, according to a news release.

The investigation revealed that Rashon Maize had taken the rental vehicle without permission from his father's girlfriend to go to a party. This was the second time in 24 hours that Rashon Maize had taken the vehicle without permission. The first time, he was stopped by Terrebonne Parish Sheriff's deputies for reckless operation.

Rashon Maize's father was already at the Police department filing a complaint when police found the vehicle in the ditch.

Rashon Maize's father said that while he was sleeping he was awoken by a telephone call from his girlfriend who said that the Holy Spirit told her Rashon Maize had taken the vehicle from his home, which prompted him to file the complaint.

Rashon Maize was arrested and is being held at the Lafourche Parish Detention Center on a $10,000 bond.
