ST. MARY PARISH, LA (WAFB) - The St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Department is investigating a crash that left one man dead and three others injured.
Deputies say the accident happened just before 8:30 p.m. Friday on Victoria Riverside Road near Little Hope Lane.
According to deputies, 26-year-old Cabot Pugh was driving a 2002 GMC Sierra westbound on Victoria Riverside Rd. when he drove off of the road and into the sugarcane field. Pugh then struck four people who had stopped in the field while riding ATVs in the area.
Kelly Dupre Sr., 55, of Paterson was pronounced dead at the scene. A man and a woman who were seriously injured were transported to hospitals in Baton Rouge and Lafayette by Acadian Air Med Services.
Another woman was taken to Teche Regional Medical Center with minor injuries. She was treated and later released.
Pugh was cited for careless operation of a vehicle.
Deputies say that Pugh tested negative for alcohol during a breathalyzer test at the scene. A routine toxicology test was taken and submitted for analysis.
The crash remains under investigation.
