Police arrest man suspected of breaking into car and stealing gun

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - The man accused of breaking into a car and stealing several items, including a gun, was arrested Thursday night on a separate charge.

According to jail records, Howard Snearl III was arrested by officers with the Baton Rouge Police Department.

He was booked on a charge of possession of Schedule II drugs. He is also being held as a fugitive from justice.

The Brusly Police Department reported Snearl is suspected of breaking into the personal vehicle of a Brusly police officer early Wednesday morning.

Detectives said cash, credit cards and the officer's personal gun were taken.

According to investigators, about 30 minutes after the burglary, surveillance cameras at the LA 1 Truck Stop showed Snearl using one of the stolen credit cards to put gas in a 2013 Chevrolet Camaro.

He will be taken back to Brusly to face charges related to the car break-in.
