Crime Stoppers tip helps police arrest 2 men accused of stealing thousands in items from Macy's

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Police credited a Crime Stoppers tip with leading to the arrests of two men suspected of stealing of thousands of dollars worth of merchandise from a Baton Rouge department store.

The Baton Rouge Police Department reported Michael Owens, 36, and Dwan Porby, 20, face charges in connection with the theft of $4,000 worth of items from Macy's in the Mall at Cortana on August 31.

According to detectives, a woman distracted store workers while two men snatched up the goods.

Owens was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on October 23 on a charge of felony theft. His bond was set at $5,000.

Porto was caught in Natchez, Mississippi on October 8 on unrelated charges. He is awaiting extradition.

Police have not yet identified the woman believed to have been involved in the crime.

The investigation is ongoing.
