Officials in East Baton Rouge Parish will hold a hearing regarding a one dollar raise in solid waste user fees.
The fee, currently set at $19 per month, was put into place in 2008. City officials say that the fee must be raised now because of costs associated with recycling glass items, and that new contracts are forcing them to raise the fee, or else services will need to be scaled back.
Officials say services affected by the fee include garbage collection and disposal along with recycling including glass items.
The raised fee would go into effect at the start of 2016, and would last through 2017. The public hearing on the fee increase will take place on October 28 at 222 St. Louis St. in Baton Rouge.
