Fort Polk holds first-ever bicycle race

FORT POLK, LA (WAFB) -

Only the strongest need apply.  Ft. Polk is hosting its first-ever bicycle race through more than 40 miles of terrain on the base October 24th, Saturday. They’re calling it "Le Tour de Polk."

Same-day registration is expected up there, and you will need to report to gate 1 and the entrance road with a valid state government ID. You will also need to apply around 7 a.m. so there’s enough time for your background check to take place. Ft. Polk is an important Army facility and is concerned about its security.

This is not a bicycle trail lined with posies and benches for resting. This is rugged. Bicyclists younger than 19 will not be accepted.

Once you are cleared to race, you’ll line up at Warrior Community Center at 9 a.m.

At this reading, you may still be able to pre-register on-line at Eventbrite.com

The race is divided into 5 categories.
--Military senior M/F (19 years-39 years)
--Military master M/F (40 years and up)
--Senior M/F (19 years-39 years)
--Master M/F (40 years and up)
--Teams of 4 division

The event is sponsored by the Directorate of Family Morale, Welfare and Recreation at Fort Polk, so expect soldiers as well as relatives and civilians and members of the surrounding communities to participate.
