BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Investigators in multiple states continue the search for the person who they believe assisted in the kidnapping and double murder of a Baton Rouge couple.
Officials in Florida said the initial extradition hearing for the suspect arrested there is scheduled for Monday. They added if he waives extradition, officials in Louisiana have 30 days to go get him. If the suspect fights extradition, officials in Florida plan to request another hearing in 30 days and Louisiana officials will have 90 days to get a warrant from the governor.
A little more than two days after the crime spree started at a home off Highland Road, authorities arrested Ernesto Alonso, 42, near Miami. He faces murder and kidnapping charges in the killings of Denis and Suzanne Duplantier.
According to police, Alonso worked for the couple and likely bound and beat them until they opened the safe in their home, which contained a large amount of money. Authorities found the bodies of the Duplantiers at a truck stop in Hammond late Monday night.
Anyone who knows anything that could help investigators track down Alonso's alleged accomplice is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 344-7867.
