BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

A man suspected of kidnapping a child and an alleged friend of his thought to be present when it happened were arrested Wednesday.

The East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office reported Terraze Triplett, 28, and Larry Johnson, 23, both face multiple charges.

According to the probable cause report, a deputy was searching for Triplett at an apartment complex on Boulevard de Province because of warrants out for his arrest.

The report stated the deputy saw Johnson walk out of an apartment, so he showed him a picture of Triplett, but Johnson reportedly gave a fake name and denied knowing Triplett.

However, the report also stated the deputy saw the name “Larry Johnson” tattooed on the man’s arm and recognized the name as being associated with Triplett. According to the report, Johnson was present the night of the kidnapping Triplett is accused of committing.

Authorities said Johnson was handcuffed and placed in a sheriff’s deputy’s unit and other deputies went back to the apartment. They added Triplett walked out when they knocked on the door and he was arrested.

"Terraze Triplett stated that his boy, Larry, was lying because he didn’t want him going back to jail because he knew he just got out from doing ten years in prison and is currently on parole," the report read.

According to the probable cause report for the kidnapping incident, Triplett is accused of going to his ex-girlfriend's apartment on October 5, getting into an argument with her, pulling out a gun on her and threatening to kill her. The report stated Triplett broke down the bedroom door where her 18-month-old was and another man grabbed the child.

The report added Triplett then took the child and he and the other man left with it, but the baby was returned by someone who said Triplett called and told him to meet to pick up the child. The report also stated the child was safely returned to its mother. Triplett is reportedly not related to the child.

Triplett was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on charges of aggravated kidnapping of a child, aggravated assault with a firearm, violation of a protective order and theft. No bond was set.

Johnson was booked on charges of aggravated kidnapping, aggravated kidnapping, violation of a protective order and three bench warrants. No bond was set.
