BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - A man accused of firing shots at a vehicle full of people in September is in police custody after officers chased him in their vehicles and on foot Wednesday.
The Baton Rouge Police Department said John Sterling, 25, shot at a car on Adams Avenue near North 38th Street on September 6.
Investigators said one person in the car suffered a gunshot wound to the shoulder and was taken to Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center for treatment. The victim is expected to recover.
According to the probable cause report, an officer spotted Sterling headed north on I-110 and tried to pull him over. The report stated the driver, instead, sped off.
Authorities said the suspect fled at more than 85 mph and forced other vehicles off the road. They added after about two miles, he exited the interstate and hit a culvert.
Police said Sterling then got out of the vehicle and tried to run, but was caught after a short chase.
Sterling was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on charges of attempted first-degree murder, illegal use of a weapon, flight from an officer and resisting an officer. No bond was set.
The motive for the shooting is unknown.
